Gabon
Gabon’s teachers strike has almost been forgotten although the Education sector has been paralysed in the country for about four months now.
The situation has been made worse by striking students who are requesting government scholarships.
But while there seems to be little dialogue between the government and teachers, a presidential majority party says there is hope the crisis will end.
After two weeks of meeting with the union leaders, the popular Democratic Block of Gabon will send proposals on possible solutions to president Ali Bongo Ondimba.
According to the head of Gabon’s Popular Democratic Block trade union, Paskhal Nkoulou, only the direct intervention of Ali Bongo Ondimba can bring a long lasting solution to the crisis.
The strike started when Gabonese teachers requested better working conditions including the construction of new infrastructure and the integration of many of their colleagues.
